Greencastle, Ind June 27 – William Elmer McGaughey, 59, a Fincastle farmer, drowned in Raccoon Creek yesterday while trying to help his son rescue a girl swimmer. The son, Donald Richard McGaughey and the girl got to shore safely, four miles south of Russellville. - kbz

Elmer McGaughey, 59, drowned in Raccoon Creek on June 26. He was born July 9, 1890, the son of Pleasant and Samantha Hart McGaughey. Survivors are 3 daughters, Mrs. Maxine Sponsel, June and Joan McGaughey, two sons, Claude Eldon and Donald Richard, a brother Manford and a sister, Alta Shannon.
